Who created PHP, and why?
PHP was created by Rasmus Lerdorf in the year 1994. Rasmus created PHP to serve as a bridge between the client-side of websites and the server-side.
What environment was PHP originally designed for?
The original purpose of PHP was to track visits to its creator's online resumé. Originally, PHP was a rudimentary set of CGI binaries that used the C programming language. It has since evolved significantly.
How common is PHP on websites?
Of all of the available server-side scripting langauges, PHP is by far the most widely used. A survey by W3Tech found that almost 79% of websites surveyed use PHP. Because PHP is used in the development of thousands of websites and is easy-to-learn, PHP is very powerful.
